Three things to plan around in Ealing over the next fortnight.
- The District line has no service to or from Ealing Broadway on three weekends running: 10 and 11 October, 17 and 18 October, and 24 and 25 October. Replacement buses run.
- Saturday 17 and Sunday 18 October is the hard one. The Piccadilly line is also shut between Hammersmith and Heathrow and Uxbridge, so Ealing Common, Acton Town, South Ealing, Northfields, North Ealing and Park Royal lose the Tube altogether. On the Sunday, Acton Main Line, West Ealing and Hanwell have no Elizabeth line trains either.
- Portal Way in North Acton and Eastcote Lane in Northolt are closed to traffic to 23 October.

What has changed since our last check
- The council has reissued its list. The new bulletin is for the week commencing 2 October 2026. It replaces the 25 September edition we used last week.
- Two new full closures. SSE has closed Portal Way in North Acton and Cadent has closed Eastcote Lane in Northolt, both from 5 to 23 October.
- Stanhope Park Road in Greenford now ends today. It was listed to 23 October last week. The new list gives 9 October. Leeland Road in West Ealing, a council closure since June, also ends today.
- Greenford Road is off TfL’s feed. Last week TfL listed a northbound lane closure between Otter Road and Bingley Road to 20 October. It no longer appears, and the job is not on the council’s list either.
- New on TfL’s feed: lane restrictions on Hanger Lane at Corringway for gas works, and Thames Water signals on The Vale in Acton at Birkbeck Grove, both to 12 October.
- The Hanwell contra-flow on the Uxbridge Road was listed to 30 September last week. The new list carries it to today, 9 October.
- Two more weekend Tube closures have appeared on TfL’s status pages, on 17 and 18 October and on 24 and 25 October.

The Central line shows a good service on all three weekends. From Ealing Broadway, it and the Elizabeth line are the way into town. This weekend, 10 and 11 October, the Piccadilly line is running, so Ealing Common still has a Tube.
How to read the council’s list
Ealing Council publishes a PDF of planned street works, and it is the only public record of who is digging up which road. The current edition carries 109 sets of works. We checked every one against its own stated end date:
- 23 entries had already passed their end date by Friday 9 October.
- The list carries 10 full road closures. On 9 October, 7 were still live, and two of those end today.
- Cadent Gas is the biggest promoter with 34 entries. SSE has 18, HS2 14, eunetworks Fiber 12 and the council’s own highway works 11.
Cadent’s entries are mostly gas mains replacement. They still cluster in two places: the streets around Hanger Lane and Pitshanger, and the Ealing Broadway ward around Amherst Road. Most run under signals rather than full closures.

Three closures on the list have now passed their end date: Raymond Avenue in West Ealing and Park Avenue in Southall on 5 October, and Grafton Road in East Acton on 2 October.
Old Oak Common Lane carries ten HS2 permits. Their end dates run as late as 30 November and 31 December 2028, with one at 25 May 2027. Anyone driving between East Acton and Park Royal should assume some form of restriction there for years rather than checking week by week.

None of these is a full closure, but they are on the routes that carry buses and through traffic.

The four routes that carry the borough
Roadworks come and go. These do not, and knowing how they behave is more useful than any weekly list.
- A40 Western Avenue runs the full width of the borough, past Northolt, Greenford and Perivale, and it is the fast route in and out. It is a TfL red route, so TfL rather than Ealing Council controls what happens on it.
- A406 North Circular and the Hanger Lane gyratory is where the A40 meets the North Circular, in W5. It is also a red route. Anything that happens here backs up onto the A40 within minutes.
- Uxbridge Road is the long east-west local street through Acton, Ealing, West Ealing, Hanwell and Southall. It carries most of the borough’s bus services and it is the road most often dug up. This week it has eunetworks stop/go signals in Southall and in Hanwell to 13 October, and a council lane closure at Norwood Green to 31 December 2026.
- Boston Road and the Hanwell corridor is the north-south link down to Brentford and the M4. The council’s own improvement works there run to 31 December 2026.
Before you drive
Every road in Ealing sits inside the Ultra Low Emission Zone. The zone operates across all London boroughs and does not include the M25. The charge is £12.50 a day for a non-compliant car, van or motorcycle. It applies 24 hours a day, every day of the year except Christmas Day. Check your vehicle before you assume it is exempt, because the charge is per day, not per journey.
For the works themselves, the council’s list is the primary source and it is a free PDF: Planned road and street works by Ealing Council and utility companies. It names the street, the ward, the contractor, the permit number and a contact number for each job. It states plainly that minor repairs and emergency works carried out at short notice will not be listed, and points to one.network for those. Read the week commencing date on the front page before you rely on it.
For live conditions, TfL’s status and traffic pages cover the A40, the A406 and the rest of the red route network, which is where the delays that actually matter tend to happen.
What it means for you
If you use the District line from Ealing Broadway, there is no service on any of the next three weekends. Take the Central or Elizabeth line instead.
If you use Ealing Common, Acton Town, South Ealing, Northfields or North Ealing, the weekend of 17 and 18 October has no Tube at all, because the Piccadilly is shut west of Hammersmith as well. Replacement buses run. Ealing Broadway’s Central and Elizabeth lines are the alternative.
If you use Acton Main Line, West Ealing or Hanwell, there are no Elizabeth line trains on Sunday 18 October.
If you drive in North Acton, Portal Way is closed to 23 October and SSE has signals on Victoria Road and Wales Farm Road for the same period. North Acton Road stays shut to 30 October.
If you live in Northolt, Eastcote Lane is closed to 23 October and Cadent has signals on Ealing Road to 18 October.
If you drive through Southall, The Broadway and Uxbridge Road have fibre and water works under lane closures and signals to mid October.
If you are commuting from Ealing Broadway on a weekday, the ten-minute run to Paddington is unaffected by planned closures.
